The Lloydminster & District Fish & Game Association is set to celebrate another year of happy hunting and angling in Alberta and Saskatchewan.
Members of the association will hold their annual Banquet and Awards presentation for best game animals, fish and bird categories, at the Stockade Convention Centre this Saturday night.
“It’s kind of a feather in their cap,” said Larry Chambers, association treasurer about the award winners.
“We give out trophies for what members were harvesting in the past year.”
The event also includes a photography contest.
“Sometimes at this banquet we have a life membership award and that sort of thing, but this year there isn’t any of those,” said Chambers.
Chambers noted the number of entries is down a little bit this year, but he says he thinks there are winners in most of the categories.
He said the trophy chairman has measured and weighed all the entries and he won’t know how that compares to other years until the banquet results.
All of the winners have been notified in advance so they have a chance to attend the banquet.
Chambers said the association has invited Border City MLAs and the directors of their affiliate organizations, namely the Saskatchewan Wildlife Federation and the Alberta Fish and Game Association.
The upcoming banquet follows the association’s gun show fundraiser held last weekend at the Servus Sports Centre.
About 400-500 people are expected to attend the banquet, that will also raise funds with a silent auction, a live ping -pong auction and sales of raffle tickets and door prizes.
Displays are open starting at 5 p.m. and the meal will be served at 6:30 p.m.
Family entertainment will be provided by Mahoney billed as a live-spirited cover band.
The banquet is also the perfect venue for the association’s 1,600 members in 2017 to step up and renew their memberships for 2018.
Annual fees are $35 a year that includes six issues of a magazine and insurance among the many perks.
There is also a three year membership option.
