The Lloydminster Legacy Centre is hosting a Canada 150 birthday concert by the Lloydminster Minstrels senior choir.
Included in the mix will be a young set of Grade 2 square dancers from College Park School.
The 45-minute concert will take place on June 15 at 1:30 p.m., followed by a special tea with Canada coloured cupcakes and a birthday cake.
The event is in advance of Canada’s official 150 anniversary, to be marked on July 1.
“We just thought it would be something nice to celebrate the 150th birthday,” said Ann Campbell, the pianist for the Minstrels, who number about 25.
“We’re a senior choral group in town; we sing all throughout the year and we go to various seniors homes and sing for them.”
The song list will include the National Anthem, and songs about Canada such as Something to Sing About, Farewell to Nova Scotia and They Call it Canada.
The visual highlight of the event will be the Grade 2 dancers.
“They will be featured will all the flags of the provinces and the territories that we bought to use in the concert,” said Campbell.
The performance by the youngsters will also give the senior singers a chance to sit down.
“We just thought it would be nice to include the kids in it,” said Campbell, adding it would create a mix of young and old.
The concert is open to the public with a monetary donation at the door for admissions.
“We’re hoping we get a good turnout from the community to it,” said Campbell.
