Lakeland College students can count their chickens now that they’ve hatched.
Students at the Lloydminster and Vermilion campuses will benefit from more than $50,000 raised for student awards during the 2017 President’s Gala. The money was raised thanks to the support of generous community members, industry leaders and friends of the college at the Gala presented by Eagle Builders on March 24,
“Our students are able to lead and achieve in so many ways because of the outstanding support our community continues to share,” said Alice Wainwright-Stewart, president of Lakeland College.
“The success of this event will help to expand student success and enable our students to realize their dreams.”
With upwards of 40 students participating in the event, the Gala shone a spotlight on student leadership.
Alyssa Wells, a university transfer student, and Auslin McDaniel-Perrin, an agribusiness student, emceed the program.
Esthetician and street rod technologies students, and welding apprentices, provided items for the live auction.
“At Lakeland College, we pride ourselves on being student leaders and becoming community leaders, like each of you,” said Wells during the Gala.
“For many students, you are the people who make their education possible.
“Your generosity helps us accomplish our goals.”
Beverley Mahood headlined the event with a special performance.
A luxury raffle package, four-course meal, and silent and live auctions were also part of the fifth annual gala with about 330 people in attendance.
Close to $1.5 million in awards scholarships and bursaries is expected to be distributed to more than 1,500 Lakeland students before the end of this academic year.
