Since 1949 Foremost has been manufacturing oilfield equipment in Lloydminster, mostly involved in welding, building tanks, pressure vessels and field construction, but an area the company would like to direct more attention to is the service part of the game.
“Everyone really knows about the products that we build, but it would be nice to feature the service side of it,” said Mike Strilchuk, vice president of energy equipment.
“We’ve got a tonne of expertise in all the product lines and then we’re also able to provide service and optimization and that type of thing for each one of those.”
Strilchuk said a lot people may see the products Foremost puts out, but might not realize the company is also fully field capable as well.
Employees can go out and offer everything from welding and turnaround services to coatings and repairs right onsite, instead of having clients bring their equipment into the Foremost shop, which in many cases may be the most convenient way to go for both parties.
“Our corporate head office is located right in Lloydminster so our field, service, and engineering support staff are strategically located to help our customers at a moment’s notice,” said Strilchuk.
The company also added field coating services throughout its entire product line to help with corrosion control and prolong the lives of tanks, pressure vessels and piping, which is a big part of maintenance requirements for many facilities.
Strilchuk said the stability of Foremost, coupled with its long term expertise, sets the company apart from the competition, often offering decades more experience than other businesses in the area.
“We’re really the heavy oil specialists, so a lot of guys have come into the industry in the last 10 to 20 years—we’ve been around for 65 years—so we’ve got a huge wealth of knowledge that a lot of the new guys just can’t provide,” he said, adding it’s mostly great customer service that’s helped Foremost stay in the game so long.
“Focusing on good customer service for everybody and really helping them get to the solution or product that they really need, and being able to provide that expertise to make sure they’re actually buying what’s really required for their job.”
The company started out as just a small machine shop, but through acquisitions and strategic growth, has become one of the largest and most diverse industrial manufacturers in Western Canada.
It now boasts more than 640,000 sq-ft of manufacturing space, nine different locations, and more than 600 employees across Alberta.
