The Lloydminster & District Co-op has opened its first commercial cardlock fuel facility in Alberta.
A ribbon cutting ceremony was held Wednesday to officially open the new $10 million Fuel Centre and home to the Co-op’s propane and petroleum divisions.
The celebration was marked with a charity barbecue in support of the Lloydminster Men’s Shelter and some grand opening remarks by Lloydminster Co-op chief executive officer, Don Stephenson.
“It allows us to continue to offer our model of growth with the expansion of both our propane and petroleum offerings,” said Don Stephenson.
“It expands the opportunity to new members and helps meet the needs of our current membership.”
The Co-op Fuel Centre is located on a seven acre site at the northwest corner of Highway 16 and Range Road 14 with new market opportunities supporting the location.
“We’ve delivered bulk into Alberta, but we’ve never had a cardlock facility on the Alberta side,” said Brandy Nelson the co-op’s petroleum manager.
“It just opens up another market for us for the cardlock side because then we can target some of that commercial Alberta.”
The new Co-op Fuel Centre includes an oil and lube warehouse and a convenience store. The oil and lube warehouse will service the commercial and agricultural markets including fuel deliveries.
Nelson said the new facility has been in the works for a couple of years with the groundbreaking taking place in early 2015.
The grand opening of the Co-op Fuel Centre follows the opening of the Co-op gas bar at Hampton Square on the west side of Lloydminster in December.
“It’s nice to be able to offer something for our consumers on this side of town,” said Nelson.
“We’ve pretty well got all the corners covered now.”
The new facility also offers commercial and domestic deliveries of propane with propane tank sales and rentals available.Services include propane fittings and accessories and bottle fills.
All of Co-op’s bulk oil and lube sales in Lloydminster will come out of the new location too.
The Co-op Fuel Centre provides up to 3.6 million litres of bulk oil and gas storage on site.
The storage site is owned by Federated Co-op that also supplies the East Alta Co-op in Vermilion. The cardlock features 20 pump stations offering new Co-op premium diesel, dyed diesel for farmers, regular and dyed regular and cardlock and bulk DEF or diesel exhaust fuel.
“The farm and commercial market is the main market we are targeting as well as pumpcards to every day consumers as well,” said Nelson who noted cardlock is available 24/7.
“It’s a nice big site – it’s easy for boats and RVs to get into.”
