Roadwork is underway on 44 Street from 45 Avenue to 50 Avenue and it is expected to last until Aug. 10.

The activity is part of the city’s $9.6 million 44 Street Rehabilitation and Overlay Project, which began three years ago. The project includes the “full reconstruction” of 44 Street from 44 to 50 Avenue, as well as the milling and overlay of 44 Street from 50 to 62 Avenue.

Work is being done to repair curbs, gutters and sidewalks, starting with the north side of 44 Street before the same maintenance is performed to the south side. Construction started at 50 Avenue and is moving eastward.

At least one lane will be open going in each direction on 44 Street. Signs are being put in place to indicate detours, as some businesses with 44 Street entrances will have their driveways under construction.

All other businesses will remain open.

The city is reminding commuters to drive carefully in construction zones and to be aware of construction workers, machinery and speed limits.

Updates on the progress of the roadwork will be posted to the city’s social media accounts.
