The Goat 106.1 FM held a fundraiser barbecue in conjunction with Diamond 7 Meats and Border City Furniture outside of the furniture store on July 2. All proceeds went to the Goat Christmas Wish and with cost by donation, the event brought in $528 in just three hours.

“This is the fourth year we’ve done it. It’s for our Christmas Wish charity so we help out a ton of families in need over the holiday season,” said Jesse Tieman, swing announcer for the radio station. “So we do various fundraisers throughout the year but this is our first one of the summer.”

Tieman says Border City Furniture has lent a hand with the barbecue for the last number of years by donating everything to make the event function, including the food, sidewalk space and actual grill. “They’ve just decided to help us out with this and we really appreciate it. I can’t stress that enough,” Tieman said. Border City Furniture hosts charity barbecues throughout the summer, with money going to non-profits in the community.

The Goat’s Christmas Wish is put together to help out Lloydminster and area families that are in need during the Christmas season and friends and families can nominate people for the charity. The radio station then helps out with things like turkey dinners and presents for kids. The Goat hosts several fundraisers that are held throughout the year, then all of the funds get pooled during Christmas when recipients of the charity are selected.

“We’ll call up the families during the morning show and let them know what exactly they’re being helped out with based on what their story is,” said Tieman.

August 6 is the date of the next fundraiser for the charity, which will be held at the Lloydminster Golf and Curling Centre. The event is the sixth annual Christmas Wish Par 3 Scramble and Hole-in-One Tournament and the Goat is still looking for sponsors and businesses that want to get involved.

Tieman says they would like to thank all of the people in the community who help make the fundraisers worthwhile and that donations can be made anytime throughout the year.

Gifts, food and cash donations can be dropped off at the Goat 106.1 FM studio or any of their yearly events. Sponsorship inquiries for the golf tournament can be made by calling 780-875-5400.
