The deadline for the early bird registration for Big Brothers Big Sisters Bowl for Kids’ Sake fundraising event is coming up on March 16 and teams are encouraged to sign up to be eligible for early registration team draws.
The event, taking place on April 17, is one of Big Brothers Big Sisters’ major yearly fundraisers and helps to pay for much of the programming they do for local children. People can get involved either through corporate sponsorships or by signing up a team and collecting pledges.
“It’s just a good time for people to come out and support us,” said Jackie Weed, director of service delivery and Bowl for Kids co-ordinator. “A lot of businesses do it as kind of a social function or for friends who just want to get out.”
Businesses interested in helping out can choose different levels of sponsorship that come with various incentives. The levels begin at $250 and go up to $3,000, with sponsors of over $1,000 earning their logo on the T-shirts worn at the event and by the agency at their other fundraisers throughout the year.
Teams collecting pledges can sign up a group of four or five people to bowl during one of the three time slots throughout the night and get entered to win prizes. Pizza will be provided at the 6 p.m. slot with snacks served at 7 p.m. and 8 p.m.
As with previous years the agency tries to have a theme for the event, so don’t forget to throw on your ugliest sweater because it will also be Ugly Sweater Night.
“Last year was ‘tacky T-shirts’ and we just tried to think of something that’s easy for people to dress up in because we work with kids, so we love to dress up,” said Weed. “We always have such a great reception from the people that are bowling, they come up with the best costumes.”
Weed said they’re always looking for more sponsors and teams and anyone can sign up right until the last day before the fundraiser.
Bowl for Kids Sake takes place from 6 p.m. until 9 p.m. at Border Bowl and for more information you can call 306-825-5757.
