Local fire departments fought to put out a blaze at a business near the hamlet of Blackfoot yesterday morning. Though no one was injured, the cost of damage is expected to be in the millions.

Fire departments from Blackfoot, Vermilion, Kitscoty and Britannia-
Wilton responded to a fire at a business building at the intersection of Highway 16 and Range Road 20 at approximately 6:50 a.m. Wednesday morning.
There were no injuries resulting from the blaze, but the damage caused is
expected to be substantial.

“It’ll be in the millions,” said Orest Popil, director of fire and emergency services for the County of Vermilion River.

No one is sure yet what caused the fire, but officials will soon be looking
into it.

“We’ll be doing investigations here in the upcoming days to try and determine
cause,” said Popil.
