Effective Oct. 9, traffic flow through the construction zone at the intersection of Highway 16 (44 Street) and 80 Avenue will be modified.

The inside traffic lanes will be closed to motorists to accommodate construction within the centre medians along Highway 16 from west of 75 Avenue to west of 80 Avenue. Traffic will continue to be reduced to a single lane in both eastbound and westbound directions.

Motorists will continue to have access to the intersection of Highway 16 and 80 Avenue.

The construction within the centre medians along Highway 16 is related to the intersection improvements for the adjacent commercial development and extension of 80 Avenue south of Highway 16. The work includes the construction of new turning lanes, line markings, traffic signal relocation and new concrete infrastructure.

Access to businesses north of Highway 16 will remain available for both eastbound and westbound traffic.

The temporary lane closures are expected to be in effect for approximately one to two weeks. Timelines are weather dependent and pending any unforeseen circumstances.

Motorists are encouraged to take alternate routes if possible, to allow extra time for travel and to avoid the affected areas. Traffic controls, including signs and barricades, will be in place to guide traffic for the duration of the work.

Project updates will be posted to the city’s Facebook page, Twitter account and website.
