For the second time in her career, Lloydminster Chamber of Commerce executive director Pat Tenney was honoured as the Chamber Executive of the Year by the Alberta Chamber of Commerce.
Winning this award also in 2008, Tenney said she didn’t think she would be in the running again, making this a a surprise for her.
“I didn’t know you would win it more than once,” she chuckled.
Eligibility for this award is based on involvement with the Alberta Chamber Executives, as well as the Alberta Chamber, and recipients must also be active members of their own local chambers.
Tenney explained you’re both nominated and voted on by your peers.
The award is given to an executive who shows leadership at the provincial level, who supports and mentors fellow chamber managers and someone who also shows leadership at a local level.
But this distinction wouldn’t be possible without the staff at the local chamber.
Tenney stressed it’s not just about her, but rather that it says something about the Lloydminster chamber.
“When your executive director wins an award, it means you have a strong chamber with good board governance and good staff support and I think that says something good about our chamber,” she said.
“Your executive director is only as good as the people behind her, really — one person can’t do it all.”
