With the leadership race for the Progressive Conservative Association underway, and only under 50 days till the first ballot, one of the three men vying for party members’ votes in the race will be in Lloydminster on Tuesday.

Thomas Lukaszuk, MLA for Edmonton- Castle Downs, has decided to bring his cross-province campaign to the Border City on July 22, in what he hopes to be an educational and insightful tour of what matters most to Lloydminster residents.

“I’m looking for as much input, as possible,” he said. “I have been to Lloydminster many times in my political career and I have a really good understanding about the challenges I may hear. But residents of Lloydminster will give me the good, bad and the ugly because that is what this campaign is all about.

“I would like to be able to share my vision for Alberta and, particularly, for rural and small town Alberta. And get into a very open and frank discussion, and honestly I find that those are the best discussions. I find that those are the best discussions about what I am willing to and not willing to hear.”

During his day visit to Lloydminster, he is hoping to hear from not only supporters, but people who have been party supporters or have not been party supporters at all.

“You learn the most from people of all backgrounds. I always say if you are in a room of people who think exactly the same, odds are no one is thinking in the first place. Diversity and criticism is how this party is going to grow and change and learn.”

Lukaszuk said that he has hidden from nothing in the past, and is not about to during this leadership race.

During his visit he is hoping to meet with as many residents as possible, and meeting with the local Vermilion-Lloydminster Party Association to speak with the association.

“Some of the events have already been sketched out by the campaign,” he said.

Lukaszuk will be sitting down with the Lloydminster Source for an exclusive one-onone interview. He will be at the Source office in the morning of July 22.
