Earlier this year, Lloydminster MLA Tim McMillan announced that he would be seeking re-election for the nomination of the Saskatchewan Party candidate in the riding of Lloydminster.
This Friday, as no other candidate has come forward to seek the nomination, McMillan will be acclaimed as the flag bearer during the 2016 general election.
Saskatchewan Party Lloydminster riding president Dave Heck said that the meet will be short because of the fact no other candidates have come forward to seek the nomination.
“Usually if we have a contested race, each candidate gives a speech and then party members vote for who they want as their candidate in the upcoming election,” he said.
Because no one else came forward, Heck said he believes the meeting should only last about a half hour.
“The nomination meeting is at the Milleton Community Hall, and registration starts at 4 p.m.,” Heck said. “Registration is for party members who were in good standing as of July 4 of this year. Registered members will be able to cast a vote at the meeting.”
The meeting will take place about a half hour after doors open, at 4:30 p.m., and as Heck stated will last about a half hour.
Saskatchewan Party card holders are invited to attend the meeting to hear McMillan speak.
According to the official news release on the nomination meeting, memberships that have lapsed within 60 days of the nomination meeting may be renewed at the door.
There will be a barbecue for party members, according to Heck.
In a previous interview between Premier Brad Wall and the Lloydminster Source, when asked about his relationship with McMillan, the premier stated that he was a great asset to the team.
“Tim is a great guy, he’s done a great job in cabinet, and he’s an up and comer in politics and hope he stays with it for a long time,” he said.
The Milleton Community Hall is located 16 miles north of Maidstone.
