With a short bench, the Lloyd Jays let one slip away.
The Jays welcomed the Meadow Lake White Sox to Legion Field this past Sunday afternoon and despite leading on two different occasions, they dropped the game 4-3 in eight innings.
For Jays starter Brian White, the game was a frustrating one that he had trouble putting into words.
“I don’t know. It’s a tough one,” he said.
The Jays were in total control after they opened the scoring in the second inning, but allowed two runs in the sixth inning and one in the eighth, suffering the extra inning loss.
While the Jays didn’t do very much wrong, they weren’t able to capitalize when they had their chances.
“They got the hits when they needed them and we didn’t, that’s all there is to it,” White said.
The Jays scored a run in the second inning, added two more in the third to take a 3-1 lead into the sixth inning where three walks and a hit tied the game for the White Sox.
In the eighth, the leadoff hitter reached base after being hit and came around to score two batters later.
“They were, they’ve been good all year,” White said of the defence behind. “I had a good team behind me I just couldn’t pull out the win.”
The Jays were hoping to tie the game as they put a runner on in the bottom of the eighth, but he reached with two outs and a third strikeout in the inning sealed the game.
“It’s frustrating, but it’s the game,” White said.
The Jays hosted St. Walburg last night, scores were not available at press time.
Regardless of who they play, or when, White knows what the team has to do to get back in the win column and see the success the team was having at the start of the season.
“We have to bounce back. Come back, throw strikes hit the ball and go one game at a time,” he said.
