The Lloydminster Bobcats made it two in a row last night, downing the St. Albert Steel 3-1 at the Civic Centre.
Captain Brody Foster scored the eventual game winner just under four minutes into the third. Brett Slobodzian provided the insurance marker with 3:15 to go as the Bobcats held on after Alex Perkins made it interesting late for the Steel, when he beat Garret Sheehan with just five minutes left.
Brock Machmeyer opened the scoring early in the second.
Slobodzian had two points on the evening, as did Ashton Reinboldt, who picked up a pair of assists.
Sheehan made 32 stops for the victory.
The win was an important one, moving the Bobcats four points ahead of Drayton Valley for the sixth and final playoff spot in the AJHL’s North Division.
The Bobcats (13-28-1-6) host a pair of games at the Civic Centre this weekend. Saturday night, the second place Grande Prairie Storm (33-12-1-2) are in town for a 7:30 p.m. faceoff. It’s then a quick turnaround as the ‘Cats host bottom dwelling Drumheller (15-27-0-5) at 2:30 p.m. on Sunday.
