The Sask. Party has nominated Tim McMillan to run once more as the Lloydminster riding’s candidate.
“Nomination went smoothly as I guess it would be expected when it isn’t contested,” said the local MLA Friday afternoon, following Thursday night’s nomination at Milleton Community Hall.
By running again, McMillan said he wants to ensure that Saskatchewan continues to move forward.
“In the last three years the reason I ran and got involved to start with was because I wanted to see some changes in Saskatchewan and thought that Saskatchewan could move forward and be a leader in Canada,” he said.
“We’ve seen many of those changes happen in the last three years, but I think there is lots of work left to be done and I want to be a part of that.”
With over a year left until the 2011 provincial election, the Sask. Party’s campaign platform is slated to be released soon and leading up to the election, McMillan said he will continue to address local issues on an ongoing basis.
“There’s always that check – how does this affect Lloydminster and what needs to be done, tweaked or changed to make this work for everybody?” he said of work as the constituency’s MLA, adding bringing local issues to the forefront is important.
“A large part of this job on a daily basis is item by item as it goes through our caucus and cabinet, making sure that Lloydminster is thought of and that the needs are met.”
With McMillan’s nomination as the party’s candidate for this riding, the Sask. Party will have nominated 31 candidates for the 2011 provincial election.
“I have been very proud to represent the people of Lloydminster for the last three years and I am very glad that I have got my party’s nomination,” he said.
“I hope to represent them again following the 2011 election.”
McMillan was first elected to the Saskatchewan Legislature in 2007. In June 2010, he was appointed to the provincial cabinet as the minister responsible for Crown Investments Corporation, Saskatchewan Government Insurance, Information Services Corporation and the Information Technology Office.
