The Lloyd Ex Grounds are busy and bustling with activity in preparation for this year’s Colonial Days fair.
While planning began more than six months ago, Corrine McGirr says the real work and physical set up began just 10 days ago.
“We’re insanely busy,” said McGirr, a committee member and Ex Association staff. “There’s been lots of work over the weekend and there will be lots of late nights for the rest of the week.”
The midway has arrived and as of Monday morning were setting up and mapping out their attractions, the buildings were nearly prepared and more than 300 volunteers were working hard at getting the final details in place.
McGirr says 35,000 people are expected to attend this year’s Colonial Days, with the highly anticipated live shark encounter and performance by The Stereos likely to attract the greatest crowds.
“It is really a huge economic event for our community. Not only do we have all the midway, tradeshow and exhibitor people coming in from across the country we (also) have the visitors. We attract people from a 150-mile radius and they come to the fair and they are definitely partaking in all the advantages that Lloydminster has to offer.
“Our fair is really an amazing value. You get an entire day of entertainment for just $12, it’s everything – the midway, food, special entertainment, special shows as well as all the livestock entertainment,” said McGirr. “The things you can do for $12 when you’re here is just amazing.”
The Colonial Days Fair is scheduled from July 14 to 17 at the Lloydminster Exhibition Grounds. The official Fair kick-off will be the Colonial Days Parade held downtown tomorrow at 10 a.m.
