Members of the Marshall Recreation board are encouraging residents to celebrate the village this weekend by participating in a community ball game, outhouse race and steak supper.
The “We are Marshall” celebration day will be held this Saturday and Deb Chapman with the Rec. Board says everyone is welcome.
“It’s just about bringing the community together,” she said.
“Marshall is a small community and without spirit you don’t have a community. If we can encourage everyone to come out- young and old- to join us and enjoy the day, that’s all we ask.”
The celebrations will commence with a pancake breakfast at 9 a.m. and will continue throughout the day with a kids’ bike parade at 10:30 a.m., outhouse races at 11 a.m., kids’ games, a car show, dunk tank and ball game from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. and will conclude with a steak and supper from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. and cabaret from 8 p.m. to 1 a.m.
“The only reason we can do so much on that day is because there are so many different organizations and groups that have stepped forward and are willing to help out,” said Chapman.
“It’s not so much a  fundraiser as it is an opportunity to get out there and let the community know there are different events, organizations and groups in town.”
The library board, local fire department, Marshall School, Synergy Credit Union and the Legion are just a few of the participating groups, and Chapman says all will benefit from the day “in some way, shape or form.”
Similar celebratory days have been organized in the past, but this year’s is larger Chapman says, adding she’s hopeful that “We are Marshall” continues to foster the vision of a proud, strong,  united community.
“We just want to keep that spirit going,”  said Chapman. “Come out and have some fun. It’s a fun-filled day for everybody so by all means come out, enjoy the day and celebrate Marshall.”
Tickets are $20 dollars for supper, steak and dance or  just $10 for a steak. Tickets can be purchased at the door or at Marshall’s Place, Synergy Credit Union or Marshall School.
