The Lloydminster Bobcats recently scored with the MS Society – Alberta Division.
The hometown team was presented with the prestigious non-member Alberta Division Award of Merit, on Nov. 13 to honour their continual support and effort to the MS cause. Johanna Green, executive and development director of the Lloydminster MS Society, says the provincial recognition is a testament to the contributions the Bobcats have made to the MS cause over the past few years.
“The award carries a huge amount of weight and it’s quite an honour,” said Green. “The support that the Bobcats have extended to us as a society has been really instrumental in helping us raise awareness of the existence of MS in the community and the need to support the cause.”
Nominations were submitted from across the province, but the Bobcats’ support won the attention of the MS Society Alberta Division.
“The Bobcats commitment to the cause is what has really shone through throughout their involvement,” said Green. “People of the organization, Tom Keca specifically, have really gone above and beyond.”
The Bobcats became involved with the MS Society in fall 2007, and have since participated in a variety of events and fundraisers. The team has been active participants in the annual Lloydminster Enerflex MS Walk, raising $4,000 this year, and also featured two special MS Game Nights last season, raising $2,000 for the local Chapter.
“We were absolutely thrilled when we received word that the Bobcats were in fact going to be recipients of the award,” said Green. “I could not think of more a deserving candidate so we were thrilled to give them something that says thank you for all that they’ve done for us.”
