Even if you aren’t aware of it, there’s a good chance you’ve walked by one of Michelle Lake’s works of art.
Her murals are scattered around the city, from the Atrium Centre to Father Gorman Elementary School and Jubilee Home and many more, her work has brightened up the city’s landscape in a host of locations.
In a couple of weeks, she’ll have even more on display as she takes part in the Arts Without Borders Art Market, which takes place during the first annual Border City Street Fest on June 12.
“I love painting large, for one thing,” said Lake on gravitating towards murals.
“And I like the social aspect of it because you’re with people, it’s a collaborative effort to try and come up with something that everyone loves. I’m kind of a social butterfly, I need that.”
Lake has been painting professionally for more than a decade and has lived in Lloydminster for her whole adult life. She has been a regular at Arts Without Borders since its inception three years ago and said she is working hard on what will be on display that day.
“I’ve been working on some of it. I have a few pieces that are representative of a trip to Cuba,” she said. “I’m just trying to grow as an artist. There will be something there for everyone.”
This year’s event takes place in the Atrium Centre.
“Last year we were in the tents in the park, which is fun, but it’s always challenging if there’s a wind or it’s a rainy day, so it’s nice to be indoors, maybe we will be able to showcase them a little better,” said Lake.
