Lloydminster residents will soon be tapping their toes to the Broadway beat.
The Catholic Youth Leadership Program and Holy Rosary Performing Arts is bringing “Broadway” to centre stage this December.
The musical review will feature a selection of nearly 30 songs from a variety of Broadway musicals including: Phantom of the Opera, We Will Rock You, Hairspray, Mamma Mia, The Lion King and more.
“This is the most excited I’ve been in seven years of doing shows,” said Angele Champigny, production director. “The best music in the world comes from Broadway and it’s great to be able to showcase some of these fantastic musicals.”
A cast and crew of more than 200 students from Grade 3 to 12 will dazzle on stage and represent 50 singers, four swing dance teams, a live jazz band and more.
“The kids are going to be amazing,” said Champigny. “Some kids are rehearsing once a week and others are rehearsing everyday.”
The production planning and rehearsal began four weeks ago, and will continue intensely for the next five weeks until opening night.
“It’s fantastic to see 200 kids on the stage, singing and dancing to Broadway,” said Champigny. “People will not be disappointed.”
The local performance will premier on Dec. 3. A Dessert Night will follow on Dec. 4 and a Dinner Theatre will be held on Dec. 5. All shows begin at 7 p.m., with the exception of a 2 p.m. closing matinee on Dec. 6.
Tickets are $15 for the Dessert Night, $28 for Dinner Theatre and $10 for show-onlys. Tickets can be purchased by calling 808-8585, between 10 a.m. and noon. For more information visit www.cylp.pbworks.com.
