Nineteen different 4-H clubs from Lloydminster and area will come together to compete against one another and to exhibit their achievements and skills. The culmination of the year is 4-H Expo June 5 to 7 at the Lloydminster Exhibition.
The 4-H Expo includes many projects and a wide-range of interests, including cow/calf, fed calf, heifer, light horse, and multi clubs, which range in projects from market lamb, outdoor wilderness, draft horse, archery, photography, canines and more.
4-H originated as a means of providing hands-on learning for young people. Its focus is skill development, teaching responsibility and creating a well-rounded experience for its members.
It is important to keep in mind the focus of 4-H Expo and the 4-H experience in general.
“Expo is for showcasing the hard work and effort members have put in all year,” said Lloyd Ex agriculture manager Sam Hardstaff in a release.
Expo will conclude in its traditional way with the fed calves selling Monday, June 7 at 2 p.m.
The 4-H members put in a great deal of work to raising their animals. Buyers at the sale reward and encourage the efforts of our 4-H youth by purchasing a steer. It is a way to support the 4-H program and the young people involved. In return, buyers know they are getting quality beef.
“Strong community support is needed to ensure the 4-H program continues to be a worthwhile experience for its members,” said Hardstaff.
This year there will be approximately 300 4-H members participating with more than 380 head of livestock. 4-H Expo is a great opportunity to learn more about what 4-H has to offer and to support the hard work of the communities’ youth.
A special thank you to the financial support from Synergy Credit Union to further develop and grow 4-H Expo.
