
Four locals were honoured for their work in equine industry at the Saskatchewan Horse Federation annual Awards Banquet. MLA Tim McMillan received the Equine Welfare Award of Distinction for Excellence in Communications for recognition of his Private Members Bill #606, which was written to help protect the Bronson Forest wild ponies.
Brad and Corrie Van Metre of Paradise Hill were awarded the 2010 Volunteer Recognition Award. They have been actively helping to organize, host and promote horse projects and the Paradise Hill 4-H Multi Club since 2004. They have helped expand the Club’s Light Horse project membership and spearheaded a successful fundraiser. Brad and Corrie started an annual youth gymkhana at their outdoor arena and have continued handing out awards for the past four years.
Taryn Holtby is from a mixed farm near Marshall. She is presently in her second year of veterinary medicine. She was awarded with the Equine Welfare Award of Distinction for Excellence – A Steward of the Future. It recognizes a young person who has shown through practices as a horse owner or through interaction with others, the importance of a commitment of responsible equine care.
